The Beginning of Catnapper
In 1933 in the midst of the Great Depression W. Ray Jackson decided to try his hand at the chair upholstery business, founded Jackson Furniture Company. After quickly learning the craft the business expanded. By the 1970’s Jackson had over 1.3 million square feet of furniture manufacturing space in TN, MS, TX, and FL and was one of the largest family owned furniture enterprises in the USA.
The greatest turning point for Jackson was the creation of the Glider Recliners. He took the knowledge he learned from working in the automobile industry and applied it to the chair/glider production. The production techniques he developed are still used in the plants as they thrive today under 3rd generation leadership.
Of course a lot has changed in the furniture industry since 1933. Recent closing of major textile plants in the U.S. have meant Catnapper has needed to go overseas for products like fabrics and leathers. However, the final product and frame build is still done here in the USA.
Catnapper Leather Recliners Remain a Favorite
Catnapper leather recliners have gone through many advancements in science and technology but one thing remains constant, families love to relax together in a room filled with comfortable furniture. Catnapper says, ‘that is where we have been, and will always be… from being huddled around a radio to being kicked back in front of a giant flat screen. We live where you live.”
